What improvements will be
completed by 2014? |
|
The following improvements will be made along the 8.4-mile
project.
- Reconstructing and expanding State Highway (SH) 114
and SH 121 where they converge
- Adding tolled managed lanes to SH 114.
- Improving two interchanges along four highways:
Farm-to-Market (FM) Road 1709, SH 26, SH 114 and SH 121.
At its widest point on SH 114, the DFW Connector would
include six to seven non-toll lanes plus two tolled managed
lanes in each direction.

What is a Comprehensive
Development Agreement (CDA)? |
|
A comprehensive development agreement (CDA) is the tool TxDOT uses to enable
private development of and, in some cases, private investments in the Texas
transportation system. This public/private partnership opportunity calls for
developing, designing and constructing the project with the potential for
maintenance under this design-build CDA. A public/private partnership will
accelerate construction by allowing one contractor to both design and construct
the project within a CDA. TxDOT will finance and collect the toll revenue on the
DFW Connector.
|
|
|
When will construction
begin? |
|
Construction could begin in early 2010.
|
|
|
How will TxDOT work to
minimize traffic problems during construction? |
|
We will use all of our tools to help
keep traffic moving safely during construction. Incentives may be included to
encourage contractors to finish construction ahead of schedule and fees could be
assessed when lanes are closed to encourage minimal disruption to traffic during
peak travel times.

|
|
How can I stay informed
about the project? |
|
There are many different ways to get information about the
project.
- Host a meeting with TxDOT Fort Worth District staff
and your neighborhood association or community group to
discuss the project.
- Attend a public hearing for the DFW Connector.
- Visit the DFW Connector Web
pages.
- Subscribe to the
DFW Connector e-Newsletter

|
How can I get involved? |
|
TxDOT open houses, public meetings and public hearings give
you an opportunity to provide comments, which become part of
the official records of those particular events. Written
comments received within 10 days after each event become
part of the official record as well.
Written comments are accepted via personal delivery,
delivery service, US mail or by fax. Comments received via
e-mail will not be in the official record of those events
but will be taken into consideration throughout the
development of the project.

|
Will this project address
noise issues in the corridor? |
|
Yes. A comprehensive analysis of noise conditions has been conducted along
this corridor to identify areas that would be impacted by traffic noise and that
would benefit from reasonable and feasible noise abatement, such as noise
barriers.
|
|
|
When will right-of-way
acquisition begin? |
|
Right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation will begin
in late 2009.
|
|
|
What are toll managed
lanes? |
|
Toll managed lanes are designed for the long-distance daily
commuter wanting the most reliable and time-saving commute.
Those drivers can anticipate traffic to flow at a minimum of
50 mph.
Drivers can expect to pay more for managed lane service
during peak travel times than at off-peak hours. For
example, when demand is low, a lower toll rate will be
charged. When demand is high, such as during peak commute
times, a higher rate will apply. Certain High Occupancy
Vehicles (HOV), such as buses and vanpools, could pay a
lower rate during peak hours.
|
|
|
Will I have to pay a toll
to use this corridor? |
|
No. Drivers may choose between the non-tolled main lanes or
the tolled managed lanes. At its widest point, it would
include six to seven non-toll lanes plus two tolled managed
lanes in each direction. The managed lanes will be located
in the existing median on SH 114.
|
|
|
Will the project have toll
booths? |
|
No. The managed lanes will use an electronic tolling system.
With an electronic toll tag, tolls are deducted
automatically from your prepaid toll account (TxTag, Tolltag
or EZ TAG).
Drivers without a toll tag may also use the managed
lanes. They will receive a bill after their vehicle license
plate is recorded by devices above the toll lanes.
