Why do we need SPUR 601? |
|

The advantages of the SPUR 601 project:
- Troops at Fort Bliss will increase to 21,000 by 2011.
- The area is open for economic development.
- This project will relieve traffic from Montana Avenue.
- Accessibility and mobility will be improved.
- Fort Bliss payroll projections indicate an increase from $360 million in 2005 to
$1.13 billion in 2011.
- Fort Bliss construction totals $2.58 billion.
- Currently, this is the largest military base expansion.
This project will help to generate:
- $20.9 billion in additional economic impact
- $13.4 billion in new labor income
- $211million in new property taxes
- $47 million in new sales tax
- 40,000 new jobs by 2013

When will it be complete? |

The completed SPUR 601 will open winter 2011.
|

Is there a toll
drivers will have to pay? |
|
Individual vehicles (private or commercial) using SPUR 601 will not be
tolled or charged a fee.The Texas Department of Transportation will reimburse
the contractor/builder a fixed dollar amount per vehicle that drives on SPUR
601. The more vehicles that use SPUR 601 the faster the contractor/builder gets
paid.
There is a maximum amount of dollars that Txdot will pay the
contractor/builder for the SUR 601 project.
