SH 249 Project - Overview

The SH 249 project will be constructed between the greater Houston area and the Brazos Valley to address rising traffic levels, reduce the potential for crashes and improve overall safety.

Planned Improvements

The planned four-lane, freeway-type roadway will include controlled-access overpasses and underpasses at major intersections and a median separating each direction of traffic.

Project Goals

The project aims to improve the regional and local movement of people and goods in Grimes County and Southeast-Central Texas. It will help address the anticipated transportation needs of the area for the next 20-30 years while preserving the rural environment of Grimes County and enhancing travel safety throughout the corridor.
