Bulldozers are clearing the right of way as the first pieces of heavy equipment get started on the US 277 Expansion in Holliday. The contractor, Duininck Brothers (pronounced Done-Nick) of Roanoke will be building the project which is expected to take two years. The job will cost $14.9 Million. The US 277 Expansion consists of upgrading approximately 5 miles of highway in Archer County. The job will start near the Archer-Wichita County line and extend to .8 miles East of Ferguson Road on the West side of Holliday. The upgrade includes building a new four lane divided highway just ½ a mile North of Holliday and tying back in with the existing facility just West of the city limits near Ferguson Road. Work crews will also widen US 277 from a two lane undivided roadway to a 4 lane divided highway. This first contract will take care of just 2 of 9 sections that will be widened on US 277 between Holliday and Seymour. US 277 from Wichita Falls to Abilene is a designated Truck System Route. The Wichita Falls District TxDOT office is responsible for widening 57 miles of highway. Two other TxDOT district will be upgrading the rest of US 277 until it reaches Abilene. Duininck Brothers is no stranger to the Wichita Falls area. They have been a leader in PFC (Porous Friction Course) paving in the Wichita Falls district over the last three years. One of their jobs on US 287 in Wilbarger County helped TxDOT win two coveted National paving awards. |
