The Texas Department of Transportation has announced that the new US 277 freeway facility planned for Seymour is moving forward after a successful letting this week. The project will cost $43.9 Million. This is 6% under estimate. The reroute will be built by Zachry Construction which is the same contractor building the Falls Flyover right now in Wichita Falls. The project provides for 3 miles of new four lane divided highway to be built just East and South of Seymour. It includes overpasses, exit, and entrance ramps at several key points in the city. We will also be putting in a new bridge over the Brazos River. The current bridge will remain in use as the Business 277/Main Street crossing. This expansion of US 277 is the second of nine projects planned by the Wichita Falls District of TxDOT. As part of the Texas Trunk System, US 277 is being improved from Wichita Falls to Abilene. The Wichita Falls District will be overseeing 57 miles of the expansion.
The Seymour reroute will be the second most expensive project built by the Wichita Falls District. The US 287 Elevated Freeway was the most expensive at $48.1 Million. The Falls Flyover ranks third at $32.2 Million. |
