Roadway parallels the Odessa Country Club golf course
ODESSA - The Texas Department of Transportation plans to remove the section of frontage road adjacent to the Odessa Country Club golf course between Club Drive and Faudree Road (Spur 588 on the state highway system).
The removal will also close a lone crossover from the frontage road to BI-20 located halfway between Club Drive and Faudree, according to Mike McAnally, the TxDOT engineer who oversees all of the agency’s construction and maintenance activities in a 12-county area of West Texas.
Following the road’s removal, all Business Interstate 20 traffic will be required to use the main lanes for that half-mile section.
The closing follows on the heels of the installation of a signal light at Faudree Road and BI-20 and the construction of a divider median which blocks through traffic on the frontage road at that location. The traffic-activated signals began working in late May.
The median island prevents westbound drivers on the frontage road from making a left turn onto BI-20 and eastbound drivers along the frontage road from making a left turn onto Faudree Road.
The installation of the signal light, construction of the divider median, and the closure of the section of frontage road running alongside the golf course were among the recommendations included in an extensive study of the BI-20 corridor between Odessa and Midland that was done two years ago.
