LUFKIN – Motorists are encouraged to avoid the South First Street (Business 59) – Timberland Drive intersection when possible next week. Starting Monday, July 21, 2008, the traveling public can expect more delays and detours as the contractor continues to make concrete pavement/joint repairs in the area.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the work will require closing Loop 266/Old North First Street, which runs north behind the Timberland Drive businesses, as repairs are made to the roadway. The crossover at South First Street and Raguet will also be closed. It will take the contractor several days to conduct this work, weather permitting. Once all repairs to the roadway are completed, an overlay will be laid on the northbound and southbound lanes of South First Street to Loop 287. To decrease the impact on traffic, the overlay will be done at night. The project is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
To avoid travel delays, TxDOT urges the public to use alternate routes if possible. Motorists are also urged to slow down in the construction zone and to obey all traffic devices. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
