LUFKIN – The overlay project from South First Street to Loop 287 (Business 59) continues. Motorists can expect minor traffic delays for the duration of the project.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the concrete joint repair is about 50 percent complete but will take at least three more weeks to complete. Add to that another week for laying asphalt on the northbound and southbound lanes of South First Street to Loop 287. To decrease the impact on traffic, the overlay will be done at night.

To avoid delays, TxDOT urges the public to use alternate routes if possible. Motorists should also slow down in the construction zone and obey all traffic devices. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
