LUFKIN - An overlay project is
underway from South First Street to
Loop 287 (Business 59) and motorists
can expect some delays and detours
in the area during the next week.
According to the Texas Department of
Transportation, the contractor is
doing concrete joint repair and
replacing broken concrete slabs
which will require a couple of
closures.
Starting Monday, the northbound
lanes of the South First Street
intersection will be closed as will
the crossover at South First and
Raguet near Wright Motor Company.
Contractor crews will be repairing
joints and replacing concrete slabs.
The work is scheduled through July
8, weather permitting. Once the
repairs are finished, an overlay
will be laid on the northbound and
southbound lanes of South First
Street to Loop 287. To decrease the
impact on traffic, the overlay will
be done at night. The project is
expected to be completed within the
next six weeks.
To avoid delays, TxDOT urges the
public to use alternate routes if
possible. Motorists are also urged
to slow down in the construction
zone and to obey all traffic
devices. Remember, traffic fines
double when workers are present.
