Notice of Public Meeting to Discuss Improvements of U.S. 290 from SH 130 to FM 973

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will conduct a Scoping Meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2007 to discuss the proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 290, from State Highway 130 to Farm-to-Market Road 973 in Travis County. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria at Manor High School between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The school is located at 12700 Gregg Manor Road in Manor, Texas.

TxDOT’s proposed improvements to U.S. 290 include widening the existing four-lane divided arterial to a six-lane toll road. The length of the proposed project along US 290 is approximately 3.2 miles and includes right of way within the city limits of Austin and Manor. The Scoping Meeting will allow TxDOT and its consultants to address and receive public comments, the purpose of and need for the project, alternative routes and to identify other public concerns. TxDOT Austin District Engineer Bob Daigh says, “We are committed to working in partnership with residents, roadway users and area business owners to provide solutions to the current and future transportation needs of the Manor area.”

All interested citizens are encouraged to attend the Scoping Meeting and provide input on the project. A transcriber will be available at the meeting to record verbal comments. Written comments will be collected at the Scoping Meeting or can be mailed to the following: District Environmental Coordinator, Texas Department of Transportation, and P.O. Box 15426, Austin, Texas 78761-5426. The public can also fax their written comments to 512-832-7157. TxDOT is also establishing a website for the 290 East project. When completed, users can go to www.txdot.gov and type “290 Manor” into the keyword search.

The U.S. 290 expansion project could begin construction in 2010.
