Roadway |
Project Description |
|
US 83 Roma/Rio Grande
City Relief Route
Starr County
|
The proposed plan is to
construct a controlled-access roadway along a new location around Rio
Grande City and Roma in Starr County. The project would begin east of Rio Grande City and connect back to US 83 at Loma
Blanca Road, north of Roma for a total distance of 23 miles. The
right-of-way width needed would be a minimum of 300 feet to build the
main lanes and access roads where needed. Because it is a new location
project, TxDOT minute order requires the department to consider the
project as a toll road. TxDOT is currently working on the environmental
document. The timeframe to begin construction is approximately 5 years. |

US 83 La Joya Relief
Route
Hidalgo County
|
The proposed plan is to
construct a controlled-access roadway along a new location around the
communities of Penitas, La Joya, Havana, and Sullivan City in
Hidalgo/Starr County. The project would begin ½ mile west of Showers
Road and end 1.3 miles west of the Hidalgo/Starr County Line; a total
distance of approximately 11.3 miles. The right-of-way width needed for
the proposed project would vary. Because it is a new location project,
TxDOT minute order requires the department to consider the project as a
toll road. TxDOT is currently working on the environmental document. The
timeframe to begin construction is approximately 3 to 5 years. |

US 281 Military Highway
Hidalgo & Cameron Counties |
The proposed plan is to
reconstruct and widen the existing roadway to four lanes divided with
shoulders from Spur 600 (near the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge) in
Hidalgo County to US 77/83 at State Highway (SH) 100 in Cameron County.
This corridor is a southern alternative route to US 83 Expressway
between Hidalgo and Cameron Counties. An additional 200 feet of
right-of-way would be needed throughout the project. The existing
right-of-way width is typically 100 feet and the proposed right-of-way
is typically 300 feet. At selected future overpass locations, the
proposed right-of-way would vary to a maximum width of 400 feet. The
project distance is approximately 42 miles. TxDOT is currently working
on the environmental document. Segments of the project could begin
construction in 3
to 5 years. |

FM 1925 Monte Cristo
Expansion/Extension
Hidalgo & Cameron Counties
|
Farm-to-Market (FM)
1925 Route Study is being performed to provide a northern alternative
corridor to US 83 Expressway by utilizing the existing FM 1925 alignment
to connect US 281 in Hidalgo County with US 77 in Cameron County. The
proposed alignment would begin at US 281 in the vicinity of the Ramseyer
Road interchange north of Edinburg then traverse along a new location to
connect to FM 1925 at the approximate location of Alamo Road. The
alignment then follows the existing FM 1925 corridor to FM 491 where it
follows a new location to connect to US 77 in the vicinity of the
Orphanage Road Overpass. The project length is approximately 25 miles.
The right of way width needed is a usual 300 feet to construct a four
lane divided facility and 400 feet at major intersections to construct
future overpasses. TxDOT is currently working on the environmental
document. The timeframe to begin construction is approximately 5 years. |

US 83 Corridor from
Starr/Zapata County Line to Zapata/Webb County Line
Zapata County
|
The US 83 Expansion
Project from Starr to Webb County runs 63 miles from Zapata/Webb County
Line to Loma Blanca Road in Starr County. The project traverses the
communities of San Ygnacio, Ramireño, Urebeño, Zapata, Chihuahua, Lopeño,
Falcon, Salineño and Los Arrieros. The plan is to construct a four lane
divided highway with a grass center median. In certain urbanized areas,
the highway would be divided with a continuous left turn lane. The
environmental document for the southern section from San Ygnacio to Loma
Blanca has been approved. The environmental document for the northern
section is still pending approval. TxDOT has started the Right-of-Way
acquisition process. Segments of the 63-mile project could begin
construction in 1 to 2 years. |

Nolana Loop (FM 3461) Hidalgo County |
A partnership between
TxDOT and the City of McAllen to widen to six lanes five miles of FM
3461 from US 281 Expressway in Pharr to FM 2220 (Ware Road) in McAllen. |
