In Wichita Falls, the four-lane undivided section on US 82 from the Archer County line to .7 mile west of FM 369 is being evaluated for widening. Design options for the ultimate roadway include a four-lane divided highway.
Crashes have caused TxDOT to look at ways to improve safety. Citizen concerns include the 60 mph posted speed limit and several intersecting driveways that exist along this stretch of roadway, leading to the potential for additional incidents. Some citizens would like to widen the existing road; others prefer a four-lane divided roadway on a new alignment away from the existing road. TxDOT is working with engineering consultant CP&Y Inc. to evaluate different options.
Stakeholder meetings were held in the summer and fall of 2016. A public meeting was held on Feb. 9, 2017.
An integral component of this project is to work directly with public and private stakeholders through a stakeholder working group. The working group will aid the project team in incorporating locals’ advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible. A public meeting was held to share alternatives with the general public and to garner public input.
