SH 42 from US 80 in White Oak South to I-20

TxDOT is developing preliminary plans for the expansion of SH 42 from US 80 in White Oak, south to I-20. The project includes expanding the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway with a flush 16-foot median. The expansion will help ease congestion along a corridor that experiences a high percentage of large truck traffic.

Details

Enhancements to this corridor would include:

  • Widening from a two-lane road to a four-lane roadway with flush median, with curb and gutter to accommodate expected growth in traffic
  • Adding a continuous center left-turn lane to provide additional safety
  • Redesigning the roadway’s alignment to improve grades and curves to meet current design criteria
  • Incorporating sidewalks and/or bicycle lanes where appropriate

The project will require the acquisition of additional right of way.

TxDOT hosted the first public meeting on Nov. 2, 2017  in an effort to engage the public.

TxDOT has tentatively scheduled the second public meeting for Summer of 2018.  The meeting's details will be posted to this website as they become available. Adjacent property owners will also receive notification by mail. All interested citizens will have a chance to provide input, voice concerns and ask questions.

Schedule

The first public meeting was hosted Nov. 2, 2017,  where 3 alternatives were presented to the public for comments and feedback. The alternatives shown at the first public meeting are available below.  TxDOT and its consultants are taking the publics comments and concerns from the first public and developing a preferred alternative.  The preferred alternative will be presented at the second public meeting for interested parties to provide comments and feedback.

For a project this size, the preliminary engineering development will take approximately two years. TxDOT started work on the project in March 2017.

Next steps include the following:

  • The second Public meeting is tentatively scheduled for Summer of 2018
  • Preferred alternative finalized and environmentally cleared by Spring of 2019.
  • Right-of-way acquisitions are expected to begin in Spring of 2019
