Spur 10 from US 59 to FM 2218 - Fort Bend County

As part of the overall SH 36 Corridor improvement effort, TxDOT is proposing improvements to Spur 10 from US 59 in Rosenberg to SH 36 in Pleak, Fort Bend County.

Current Conditions

The purpose of these corridor improvements is to improve safety by providing additional capacity during hurricane evacuation events and to reduce traffic congestion due to population growth. Spur 10 is typically a two-lane undivided roadway in Fort Bend County.

Proposed Improvements

  • Expand to a four-lane divided roadway with a grassy center median in rural sections
  • Add center left-turn lane in urban sections
  • Extend Spur 10 south of US 59 along Hartledge Road

Project Background

Preliminary alternatives discussed in earlier public meetings proposed either constructing Spur 10 either to the north or the south of the existing Hartledge Road, or to widen the existing Spur 10/Hartledge Road.

Many of the preliminary alternatives including the new location alternatives for Spur 10, were dismissed during the early planning stages in 1999 and 2000 due to public feedback and increased costs associated with new location alternatives. An environmental assessment document  that outlined the environmental considerations for this Spur 10 project – as well as the SH 36 project from US 59 to Farm-to-Market (FM) 2218 determined that a combination of some widening the existing Spur 10 and extending Spur 10 in a new location is recommended. A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was determined in April 2008.

Current Status

The process of construction is being divided into two phases. The first phase of construction on Spur 10 includes extending Spur 10 south along Hartledge Road, and that work has been completed. The second phase of construction on Spur 10 will include widening the two-lane highway to a four-lane highway, along with some depressed median sections and some flush median sections.

Estimated right-of-way will vary depending on the area; page 19 of the environmental assessment document provides additional information. Displacements will also be required.
