SH 6

The scope of this study is a 17-mile section of SH 6 from 1,200 feet west of FM 521 to the Galveston county line in Fort Bend and Brazoria counties. The proposed project would improve safety, and improve traffic operations at the intersections.

Current conditions

The current road is a continuous left turn lane (flush median) with six 12-foot travel lanes.

Proposed improvements

The proposed changes would include:

  • Converting the existing continuous left turn lane (flush median) to raised medians to improve safety
  • Improving the intersections at FM 1128 (Masters Road), Brazos/Second Street, Business 35 (Gordon Street), and SH 35 Bypass to include turn lanes and traffic signal improvements

No changes are proposed to the drainage system or posted speed limits. One commercial business would be displaced and approximately 0.56 acres of new right of way would be acquired.
