Red Bluff Road from Kirby Boulevard to State Highway 146

The TxDOT Houston District is proposing improvements to Red Bluff Road from Kirby Boulevard to State Highway 146 in Seabrook, Harris County, Texas. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve safety and enhance mobility to accommodate existing and expected future growth.

Current conditions

The existing roadway consists of approximately 1.5 miles of three 11-foot travel lanes with a continuous 11-foot left turn lane between SH 146 and the Taylor Lake Bridge, and transitioning to one-way operation between the bridge and Kirby Boulevard. The existing bridge currently includes a two-lane, undivided roadway without pedestrian walkway facilities.

Proposed improvements

The proposed improvements would construct two eastbound traffic lanes and convert the existing roadway to a one-way westbound operation. The proposed project would improve the roadway on the existing bridge over Taylor Lake to include the addition of a new bridge parallel to the existing bridge. This existing bridge, located north of the proposed new bridge, would be re-striped to two lanes of westbound traffic. The proposed new bridge would include two lanes of eastbound traffic and a 10-foot-wide pedestrian walkway.

The proposed project’s letting date is December 2018. The total project length is 1.5 miles of roadway. The project requires 0.3 additional acre of right of way; however, no displacement to local residents is expected.
