I-10: SH 6 to FM 359

The Texas Department of Transportation Houston District is proposing the addition of four managed lanes and the extension of frontage roads (in sections) on I-10 from SH 6 in Harris County to FM 359 in Waller County. The proposed length is approximately 19 miles.

Current conditions

The existing conditions along I-10 consist of 6-lane divided highway from FM 359 to SH 99. Just west of SH 99, I-10 transitions to a 10-lane divided highway with two managed lanes in the middle. All travel lanes are 12-feet wide and shoulders are present. There are currently no westbound frontage roads from just east of the Fort Bend/Waller County line to FM 359 and no eastbound frontage road from FM 359 to Pederson Road. The typical existing right of way varies from 320 to 400 feet.

The proposed project consists of:

  • Adding four managed lanes
  • Continuing the frontage roads within the project limits

Approximately 45 acres of additional right of way (ROW) would be needed in the reconstruction section of the project in Waller and Fort Bend Counties, which may result in residential or commercial structure displacements. No additional ROW would be needed in the restripe section of the project in Harris County.
