Improvements to I-35W in Tarrant County are being planned from I-30 to Eagle Parkway just south of SH 114. I-35W was environmentally cleared by the Federal Highway Administration in 2012.
I-30 to I-820
The existing highway includes two to three general purpose lanes each direction. The ultimate configuration includes four general purpose lanes in each direction, along with two managed lanes in each direction in the median are warranted for future traffic volumes.
I-820 to Eagle Parkway
The existing highway includes two general purpose lanes each direction. The ultimate configuration includes three to four general purpose lanes in each direction, along with two to three managed lanes in each direction in the median are warranted for future traffic volumes.
Managed Lanes
The managed lane facility on I-35W will connect to other planned managed lane facilities to the east along I-820/SH 183 to SH 161. A managed lane alleviates congestion by adjusting the hours of operation, auto occupancy and value/toll pricing.
Interim Project
Construction begins in 2013 on a $1.6 billion interim project to rebuild 10 miles of I-35W from north of I-30 to North Tarrant Parkway. Part of the North Tarrant Express, this project will double the existing capacity by adding four toll managed lanes, auxiliary lanes and some frontage roads.
