SH 35 at SH 361/Spur 202 Interchange

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing improvements to the SH 35 at SH 361/Spur 202 interchange in Gregory, San Patricio County, Texas.

Proposed improvements

TxDOT's Corpus Christi District is moving forward with the project development process for SH 35 at SH 361. Area growth and planned adjacent improvement projects prompted TxDOT to conduct a feasibility study in 2021 to evaluate how to better connect SH 361, SH 35 and US 181. Based on data analysis in the study, a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) was a preferred option for safety, mobility and operational efficiency for current conditions and for future development. A SPUI is an innovative intersection design where a single traffic signal at the center of the interchange controls all left turns. This allows drivers to make opposing left turns at the same time which improves the efficiency of the intersection.

TxDOT is proposing to construct an elevated SPUI to connect SH 35, SH 361 and Spur 202 located in Gregory. The project also includes the roadway connections to Gregory, Portland, Ingleside and Aransas Pass. Proposed improvements include:

  • Constructing a new interchange
  • Adding continuous flow for those turning right
  • Eliminating two railroad crossings at ground level
  • Providing wider turning lanes
  • Reconstructing ramps
  • Extending frontage roads

Project updates and public involvement

The purpose of public involvement is to share project information, present project updates, and gather public input. TxDOT is committed to working closely with the public on this project.
