Bicycle Tourism Trails Study

In response to 2005 legislation, TxDOT is conducting a Bicycle Tourism Trails Study in collaboration with its Bicycle Advisory Committee with input from a host of statewide and regional stakeholders.

The outcome of the Texas Bicycle Tourism Trails Study is envisioned as an example statewide bicycle tourism network based upon the application of collaboratively developed quantitative and qualitative route location criteria. The example network of bicycle tourism routes would provide safe, non-motorized access to and connectivity between statewide/regional destinations and support economic development across Texas.

Four goals of the study have been identified:

  • Identify bicycle tourism trail routes
  • Foster the development of safe bicycle tourism trails
  • Identify benefits of bicycle tourism trails
  • Engage stakeholders

The study is anticipated to be completed in early 2018 and will inform future planning efforts.
