Drive Clean Across Texas campaign winner drives home 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

AUSTIN — Keith Williams, a 52-year-old Navy veteran and laboratory manager from Point Comfort near Victoria, will be driving cleaner after winning a brand new low-emission hybrid car in a ceremony hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation’s Drive Clean Across Texas air quality campaign and the Dallas Cowboys.

Williams was one of three finalists selected at random from the thousands of entries in the Drive Clean Across Texas hybrid car sweepstakes, which also offered drivers the chance to pledge to do their part for clean air. Prior to Sunday’s kickoff at the Cowboys vs. Broncos game at AT&T Stadium, Williams selected the winning key that put him in the driver’s seat of the hybrid car, which was donated by the Dallas Cowboys.

Williams was elated when he clicked the remote car key’s unlock button lighting up the new Ford Fusion Hybrid.

“I’ve been a Cowboys fan all my life,” he said. “Now, thanks to the Cowboys and TxDOT’s clean air campaign, I’ll be saving a bundle on gas.”

Williams, who was joined by his 20-year-old son Dylan and his fantasy football buddies for the Sunday game, says his new Fusion hybrid will be replacing a 10-year-old sedan and significantly improving his gas mileage.

“We’re very happy for Mr. Williams,” said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. “We know he will enjoy many years of clean driving. Hybrid vehicles are more fuel efficient and produce fewer emissions, making them a great choice for both saving money and improving air quality.”

TxDOT reminds drivers there are a number of steps they can take to save gas and keep the air clean. For tips on driving clean, visit DriveCleanAcrossTexas.org.
