WICHITA FALLS — The four-lane undivided section of US 82  from the Archer County line to .7 miles West of FM 369 is being evaluated for widening.  TxDOT is reviewing the 3.8 mile corridor due to:

  • Numerous intersecting driveways and side roads
  • The 60 mph speed limit, in relation to the number of intersections
  • Crashes and the potential for additional incidents
  • An increasing number of vehicles traveling into and out of Wichita Falls
  • Projected growth over the next 20 years (business and residential)
  • Connectivity to existing divided roadways

Project Purpose

The proposed US 82 project will enhance the safety and efficiency of this corridor for the traveling public. Some citizens would like to widen the existing road; others prefer a four-lane divided roadway on a new alignment away from the existing road. TxDOT is working with engineering consultant CP&Y Inc. to evaluate different options to improve safety and traffic flow along this section of US 82.
