PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that two road improvement projects are underway in Lamar County in Northeast Texas.
Contractor RK Hall Construction began work last week on these projects valued at more than $1.6 million. TxDOT officials said the anticipated completion date of both projects is February 2018, weather permitting.
On US 82 in Blossom, Texas, the contractor will remove the old, worn pavement from Division Street to FM 194, repair concrete joints, and resurface the roadway. The center turn lane west of Division Street will be extended eastward to connect with the current center turn lane, officials said. The contractor will also restripe the area west of Front Street from four lanes with no center turn lane and no shoulders, to two through-lanes with a center turn lane and shoulders.
On FM 1500, the contractor will widen the roadway from FM 1499 north to the Lamar Point Community. Widening will add two-foot wide shoulders to this roadway, officials said. The final finished surface for this portion of FM 1500 will be applied in summer 2018, due to temperature constraints.
Motorists who travel frequently in these areas should remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
