PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that construction will begin Feb. 15 on the bridge replacement project at I-30 and FM 2642 in Hunt County.

Contractor Austin Bridge & Road, Irving, Texas, has 493 working days to complete this project at an estimated cost of more than $23.2 million. This project is expected to be complete in about 18 months, weather permitting.

The project will consist of constructing a new underpass for FM 2642, where it intersects I-30. The work will include retaining walls, curbs and gutters, storm sewer, sidewalks for the underpass, access and egress ramps and driveways. Phase 1 of this project begins Feb. 15 to widen and convert frontage roads to one-way traffic.

In later construction, I-30 traffic will divert to frontage roads and FM 2642 traffic will be detoured during overpass construction.

The project runs from the Hunt-Rockwall county line to FM 1565 and will raise the vertical clearance of the underpass at I-30 and FM 2642. It will also improve mobility at the intersection by adding lanes and relocating entrance and exit ramps. The new underpass bridge will have a 22-foot inside shoulder, two 12-foot traffic lanes and 10-foot outside shoulders for east- and west-bound lanes. The underpass will have a left-turn lane and turn-around lanes.
