PECOS – Traffic control will change dramatically the week of Aug 14, 2017, on an ongoing project to improve about 10.8 miles of Highway 285 between County Road 232 and Orla (RM 652) north of Pecos.

Starting on the southern end, the contractor will be reworking main lane sections of Highway 285 in short segments. This work will require traffic control devices to be in place.

The contractor will start on the south end and work to the northern limit. Then he will turn around and work from north to south. This phase will take about 5 months to complete.

While traffic will be flowing in both directions, the speed limit in the work zone is 45 miles per hour.

Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey pilot cars and warning signs as well as any flaggers encountered in the work zone.

Delays can be expected. Alternate routes are strongly encouraged if possible.

Constructors Inc. of Carlsbad, N.M., won the project with a low bid of $12,525,496.

This is the first of several projects scheduled to improve Highway 285 between Pecos and the New Mexico state line.
