PECOS – Traffic patterns at a key intersection in Pecos will be significantly affected by a bridge repair project starting July 10, weather permitting.
The repair project will require alternating lane closures on both Interstate 20 and Highway 285. Width restrictions will also be put in place during the project. The project will repair or replace bridge beams, bridge caps and the bridge deck. It will also upgrade the bridge rail and approach railing.
Work will begin underneath the overpass and will require lane closures on Interstate 20. Width restrictions of 11 feet will also be in place on the interstate.
Once work moves on top of the overpass, the existing traffic signals will handle traffic control on the project. In addition to lane closures, a width restriction of 9 feet will be in place on Highway 285.
Lane closures will occur in both directions on both roads at different stages of the project. The closures will alternate as work is done.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible once work begins. Motorists are also reminded that state law requires them to obey any flaggers, warning signs and traffic control devices encountered in the work zone.
The project is scheduled to be completed in October.
SCR Civil Construction of Richmond, Texas, won the project with a low bid of $936,605.40.
