PECOS – A project to improve a section of Highway 285 north of Pecos is scheduled to begin Feb. 13, 2017. This is the first of several projects scheduled to improve the highway between Pecos and the New Mexico state line.

This first project will improve the section between RM 652 at Orla and County Road 232. The project spans about 10.8 miles. In addition to rehabilitating the road, some passing lanes will be added in the section.

The construction plan will require lane closures during the day. A pilot car will be in use to take traffic through the work zone. Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey pilot cars and warning signs as well as any flaggers encountered in the work zone.

Delays can be expected. Alternate routes are encouraged if possible.

Lanes will be open at night. The speed limit will be 45 miles per hour in the work zone.

The project is scheduled to take 18 months to be completed.

Constructors Inc. of Carlsbad, N.M., won the project with a low bid of $12,525,496.
