Texas Transportation Commissioners approved last week approximately $710,000 for improvements at the A.L. Mangham, Jr. Municipal Airport in Nacogdoches County.
Funds for the new construction project are earmarked for airport improvements and designated for new fencing. Construction is expected to begin later this summer.
Project costs will be funded through the City of Nacogdoches and the TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system. Approximately 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding through the grant program. In 2017, TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports.
According to TxDOT Aviation Division statistics, arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than 3 million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.
