LAMESA – The Texas Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin a $553,860 project to make roadway improvements to a segment of FM 2051 in Dawson County. Contractor Price Construction, LTD, of McKinney, Texas, will begin placing traffic control along the project limits on Monday, July 10.
Improvements being made include raising and widening the roadway surface, said Stuart Withington, P.E., TxDOT assistant Brownfield Area engineer.
“This area is prone to flooding. Our goal is to raise the roadway to the appropriate level to prevent future flooding,” Withington said. “The project will also widen the roadway from its current 20 feet to 30 feet.”
Motorists driving along FM 2051 for the next several months can expect extended road closures, from FM 829 to one mile west, during construction and should seek alternate routes around the work zone. The project is expected to be completed in late-August.
