CHILDRESS – TxDOT is currently working on a project to make improvements to US 287 in Hardeman County. The project begins at the Hardeman/Childress county line, southeast, to FM 1166 for a distance of 9.25 miles, southbound lanes only.

The contractor for this $4.2 million project is R. K. Hall LLC. The project began on Thursday, June 15, with the contractor setting traffic control barricades.

“Seven miles of this project is a mill and inlay,” said Jeff Thomas, TxDOT Construction Inspector. “The contractor will mill out the existing hot mix and overlay with a new asphaltic concrete pavement. The remaining two miles through Goodlett will be a complete rehabilitation of the roadway.”

The driving lane will be closed first for the length of this project. When the driving lane is complete, traffic will be switched and work will resume on the passing lane.

Motorists are urged to slow down through the construction zone and watch for contractor and TxDOT personnel and equipment.

This project is expected to be complete by Nov. 3, 2017, weather permitting.
