ATLANTA – Three interchanges along I-20 in Harrison County will have improvements made to lighting systems during the coming year, according to plans approved in August by TxDOT.
“The current nighttime lighting at the interchanges will be replaced with more efficient LED high-mast lighting systems that will better illuminate the intersections,” said Rebecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “The LED lights are brighter and more cost efficient than the present lighting, and they illuminate larger areas.”
Interchanges on I-20 scheduled for the high-mast lighting systems are at Farm-to-Market Roads 968, 450 and 3251 in western Harrison County.
South Texas Illumination of Winona, Texas, was awarded the contract for these traffic control projects with a bid of $689,736.
Work on the projects should begin in October and take about seven months to complete, Wells said.
