ATLANTA – Sections of Business 79 in Carthage will receive a new riding surface during this summer, according to plans approved in March by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
"We will be resurfacing a 1.7-mile section of the highway making up Panola Street from Saint Mary Street downtown to 0.3 mile east of the loop," said Paul Wong, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall. "We will also be resurfacing a 1-mile section of the highway making up Sabine Street from Shelby Street downtown to the loop."
Drewery Construction Company of Nacogdoches was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $881,659.
Work on the project should begin in May and take about three months to complete, Wong said.
