TxDOT will close Bell Street at I-40 beginning next Friday, July 28, at 7 p.m., for safety and to facilitate bridge demolition. Demolition will begin with the eastbound turnaround bridge. This will also require full closure of I-40 in both directions, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 28. Interstate traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads. Officers will be on-site during the demolition, and motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
I-40 is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, July 31.
The same road closures will take place the following weekend as demolition of the main bridge takes place, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.
I-40 will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7.
Local traffic is reminded that the Bell Street bridge will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is slated for completion by late November 2017. Northbound Bell Street motorists are encouraged to detour east to Olsen Boulevard, while southbound Bell Street motorists should detour west to Coulter Street.
