Public Meeting - FM 457 Bridge Replacement Project

| Purpose: | This public meeting on the Sargent bridge replacement project is your opportunity learn more about the need for a new bridge, talk with project staff and provide input. An open house will begin and at 5:30 p.m. with a formal presentation at 6 p.m. Alternative design drawings and other information about the proposed project will be available for review at the public meeting. Project personnel will be present at the public meeting to explain the drawings and other exhibits. This information, along with a tentative letting schedule, will be available for review by the public for five business days prior to the meeting and will be located at the Yoakum District Office of the Texas Department of Transportation, 403 Huck St. in Yoakum. | Description: | The FM 457 swing bridge in Sargent is in need of replacement because of its age and the high maintenance costs associated with its upkeep. TxDOT is proposing to replace the swing bridge with a concrete bridge that would span the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway to provide access for residents on the south side of the waterway. The width of the existing right of way is 100 feet, and new right of way will be needed. Relocation of residences and businesses may be required. The proposed project will encroach upon a floodplain and potential wetlands. The project does not encroach on a sole-source aquifer recharge zone. | ||
