South Padre Island, TX 78597

When: Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Presentation - 6:30 p.m.
Purpose: A public hearing to discuss the proposed South Padre Island 2nd Access Project in Cameron County from State Highway (SH) 100 on the mainland to Park Road 100 on South Padre Island. The public will have the opportunity to view and provide comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), displays of the proposed alternatives and other project information.

Description: The proposed project is being developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA).

The proposed project consists of three major components: the mainland roadway, the Laguna Madre bridge crossing and the island roadway.

The mainland roadway component would consist of a four-lane facility within a 150-foot right-of-way (ROW) from SH 100 north along either Buena Vista Drive, or along new proposed ROW until the alignment turns eastward, either at FM 510, Center Line Road, or Holly Beach Road (depending upon the alternative). From the eastern turn, the ROW would be 400-ft to the Laguna Madre.

The Laguna Madre crossing component, which would be a controlled access tolled facility, consisting of four lanes within a single 80-foot wide bridge.

The island roadway component of the project would also consist of four lanes and would extend from the bridge to an interchange with Park Road 100 within a 400-foot ROW, then to the project terminus within the existing four-lane section of Park Road 100. Within the project limits, two additional Park Road 100 travel lanes would be constructed (one in each direction) - these lanes would be constructed within the existing Park Road 100 ROW. Sidewalks are also proposed on the island.
