Notice Affording Opportunity for Public Hearing - I-10 in Chambers and Jefferson Counties

Purpose:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing improvements to I-10 from SH 73 to Hamshire Road in Jefferson and Chambers counties to improve safety and increase mobility. The project length is approximately 5.215 miles.

The existing I-10 highway consists of four 12-foot-wide travel lanes (two in each direction), 10-foot-wide outside shoulder and 4-foot-wide inside shoulder.

Description:

The proposed project involves:

  • Reconstructing and widening the existing I-10 to a six-lane highway (three lanes in each direction) consisting of 12-foot-wide travel lanes
  • 10-foot-wide outside shoulder and 10-foot-wide inside shoulder with a concrete median barrier
  • Replacing and widening the bridge at I-10 overpass at FM 1663
  • Replacing the Brush Island Road Bridge
  • Widening existing culverts at tributaries to Mayhaw Bayou

No changes to the existing frontage roads will occur; however, the westbound exit ramp to FM 1663 will be relocated 500 feet east to improve safety and meet current design standards.

All work will occur within the existing right of way (ROW). No additional ROW or permanent/temporary easement is required; therefore, no displacements or relocations of residences and businesses are necessary.

Maps showing the project location and design, environmental information, tentative construction schedule and other information regarding the project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at:
