Lauren Garduño, P.E., serves as chief procurement and deputy administrative officer.
Working under the chief strategy and administrative officer, Lauren manages Human Resources, Purchasing, Fleet Operations, Support Services and Professional Engineering Procurement.
Lauren is a 26-year veteran of the department, having risen through the ranks to his current assignment. Lauren has spent most of his career in West Texas, including Amarillo, Odessa and Abilene, having served for 14 years as a district engineer.
Along the way, Lauren held several interim assignments, serving as district engineer in San Angelo and Brownwood and as West Region Director when the regions were being established. On Lauren’s watch, the Odessa and Abilene Districts saw major build-outs of key projects including the Midland reliever route, the John Ben Shepperd interchange, Holiday Hill road, and the Midkiff to interstate expansion. In Abilene, Lauren took the Big Spring reliever route through planning and design and was involved in the initial one way frontage road conversion projects. Lauren has also led award-winning process improvement teams in the areas of highway design and paperless offices.
Lauren has been recognized by his peers as both the Young Engineer of the Year and Engineer of the Year through the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. In 2001, he was inducted into the Texas Tech Civil Engineering Academy.
Lauren holds a master's degree in management and human relations from Abilene Christian University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University.
