Football Campaign - Make Your Game Plan

Alcohol-related traffic crashes in Texas continue to be alarmingly high. Last football season more than 1,600 DUI-alcohol crashes occurred when a Texas college or professional football team was playing. DUI-alcohol traffic fatalities increased 27 percent — from 45 deaths in 2011 to 57 deaths in 2012 — on game days when a Texas college or professional team was playing. To continue tackling this serious issue, TxDOT developed the new 2013-2014 Football Campaign to encourage fans to always have a game plan (#gameplan) for a sober ride on game days. The campaign aims to reduce the number of DWI-related traffic crashes occurring on football game days when a Texas college or professional team is playing.

Football is a huge part of Texas culture and TxDOT wants to encourage fans to enjoy the big games, but to be responsible when it comes to game-day drinking. Fans should always make a #gameplan before kickoff for a safe ride. Always designate a sober driver if you plan on drinking and if you are impaired, do not drive — call a taxi, use mass transit, contact the community safe ride program or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely or simply stay where you are.
