The US 281 planning study will examine US 281 from I-37 to the Rio Grande Valley and determine the necessary improvements to qualify US 281 as an Interstate highway.

In addition to US 281, a small piece of US 59 from I-37 to US 281 will also undergo the same study and plan development. The ultimate, long-term goal of this study is to identify and implement improvements so US 281 can serve as I-69.

Get Involved

A series of community workshops and open houses will be held in 2013 to provide citizens with first-hand information about the study and potential future developments along the highway. Citizens are encouraged to provide comments at these events so their input can be included in the final study report.

A draft of the interstate development plan, which will include feedback from citizens, will be completed in the summer of 2013 with the final report complete in late 2013.
