On Oct. 30, 2008, the Texas Transportation Commission directed TxDOT to issue an additional $2.9 billion in Proposition 14 bonds, or revenue bonds backed by the state highway fund, to advance the construction of several much needed projects across the state. The projects selected to be accelerated using these bond proceeds include the following:

• Projects previously delayed due to cash flow/funding limitations
• Priority projects such as ones to complete that last phase of multiple-phased projects or of statewide significance, such as hurricane evacuation routes
• Projects to address congestion problems in regions of the state that have lagged behind other regions in previous funding cycles
• Projects that provide safety improvements in areas with high accident rates

Additional safety projects will be added to this list in early 2009 and will be selected based on the safety benefits they provide.
