The Texas Transportation Commission adopted the TxDOT 2011-2015 Strategic Plan in June 2010. It identifies short-term goals, objectives and strategies that we will undertake to address the state’s multimodal transportation needs.
It also defines a set of agency-level performance measures that will hold us accountable for tracking our progress toward achieving the agency’s goals. This plan provides a strategic framework to guide TxDOT’s transportation planning activities, investments and decision-making over the next five years.
TxDOT's strategic plan does not address every department activity, project, program or function. Rather, it focuses on strategies that are essential for TxDOT to fulfill its mission over the next five years. It also reaffirms TxDOT’s commitment to innovation, greater efficiency and cost savings by using transportation partnerships and every financing option available.
The Strategic Plan provides TxDOT with a renewed focus by establishing the primary strategic initiatives that the department will undertake over the next five years to achieve the agency mission. By becoming a more performance-driven agency, we will be able to track and evaluate if and how our activities are achieving our strategic goals, objectives and ultimately our mission.
TxDOT produced an excerpt of the official strategic plan for general public use. The excerpt is taken from the official document and uses a much more user-friendly approach to explain the state’s mobility challenges and TxDOT's efforts to achieve its goals.
FY 2011 TxDOT Strategic Action Items
The department has developed FY 2011 TxDOT Strategic Action Items to support the achievement of the 2011-2015 TxDOT Strategic plan goals and objectives. TxDOT plans to report at least annually on our progress and update our action plans as needed to ensure their effectiveness in response to changing circumstances and demands.
