Agustin
("Gus") De La Rosa Jr. is director of the
International Relations Office of
the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). He serves as the department's
primary contact for public and private entities concerned with international
activities. He oversees the department's international relations activities,
ensuring the coordination of international-related strategic and operational
plans within districts and divisions, and across all program areas.
He is also a liaison to the Governor's Office, the Secretary of State’s Office,
and other state and federal agencies on international forums. These include the
U.S-Mexico Bridges and Border Crossings Group and the U.S.-Mexico Binational
Border Joint Working Committee on Border Transportation Planning and
Programming. He is a table representative for transportation and
border-crossings issues on the Border Governors’ Conference.
De La Rosa joined TxDOT in 1994 as director of field operations with the
Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) and served as the director of the
program from March 1998 until August 2001. He joined the department after 20
years of service in the U.S. Army, from which he retired with the rank of major.
In addition to assignments at various U.S. military posts, he served in Somalia,
El Salvador and Germany. His military commendations include the Meritorious
Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
A native of Harlingen, he earned a bachelor's degree in business from
Hardin Simmons University in Abilene in 1974. He earned a master's degree in
government in 1985 from Campbell University.
De La Rosa has been active as a youth-activities coach for baseball. He and his
wife, Diana, have two children (Manny and Veronica) and three grandchildren. |
