Robert (Bob) W. Jackson, an attorney, is general counsel for the Texas
Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Under his direction, the
Office of General Counsel
provides legal counsel to the Texas Transportation Commission and TxDOT
administration, districts, divisions and offices. He also drafts legislation and
administrative rules, testifies before legislative committees, and serves as
legal counsel at commission meetings. He became general counsel in 2006.
Jackson joined TxDOT in 1984 and worked as a planner, including time in the
Houston District, until 1990. He joined the TxDOT office of General Counsel in
1991 as associate general counsel, advanced to deputy general counsel in 1994,
and most recently was appointed to his present position in 2006. He also serves
as a member of the State Agency Coordinating Committee on the subcommittee for
legal affairs.
Among his many accomplishments, he has been recognized for his role in
leading the TxDOT effort to draft the most significant transportation
legislation in Texas history — House Bill 3588 for the 78th session of the Texas
Legislature (2003) and House Bill 2702 for the 79th legislative session (2005).
He received the Raymond E. Stotzer Award in 2005, presented by the Texas
Transportation Institute for “outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to
the State of Texas in the field of transportation.”
A native of Orange, Calif., Jackson is an Eagle Scout. He earned his
bachelor’s degree in government and geography (with honors) from the University
of Texas in 1980. Further academic accomplishments include a master’s degree in
public affairs (1985) from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs,
University of Texas, and a doctorate of jurisprudence (1990) from the University
of Houston.
Jackson and his wife, Mary, reside in Austin and are parents to two
daughters. He enjoys landscaping with native Texas plants and swimming. |
