Sims is director of the Occupational Safety Division of the Texas Department
of Transportation (TxDOT). Under his direction, the division provides safety
guidance and training to prevent work-related vehicle accidents and personal
injuries, manages the department’s self-insured workers’ compensation program,
and oversees the investigation and settlement of tort and liability claims. Sims
became director in May 1991.
Joining TxDOT in 1980, Sims worked as a field representative in the division's
Austin office and the regional office in Arlington, which serves the Fort Worth,
Dallas and Paris areas. He was promoted to assistant director of the division's
Tort Section in 1984, and named section director in 1991 prior to being named
division director.
A native of Wichita Falls, Sims earned his bachelor’s degree in business
administration from North Texas State University in 1979.
Sims has a daughter, Porscha Nikole, and a son, Edwin II. |
