Diana L. Isabel is director of the
Human
Resources Division of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). She
oversees employee compensation management; personnel administration; employee
relations; training, quality and development; hiring and recruiting activities;
analyzes and develops policy and operating procedures related to human resources
management. She also has oversight for the department’s statewide Video
Teleconference System and Human Resources Management System. Isabel joined TxDOT’s
Traffic Operations Division in 1976 as an accountant, progressing to chief
accountant in 1985. She was financial manager for the safety program and, in
1987, became assistant chief of special programs. Her duties included the
division’s operating budget, voucher processing, human resources activities, and
time and labor distribution. In 1991, she was promoted to internal auditor and
served as research coordinator.
From 1992 to 1998, Isabel
was director of the Management Support Section, responsible for human resources
management, purchasing, inventory, information resources, planning and policy,
and manual development. She also worked with legislative issues and was the
division’s Equal Employment Opportunity coordinator before being selected as
director in November 1998.
Prior to TxDOT, Isabel was
assistant comptroller in the Governor’s Office of Traffic Safety from 1974 to
1976. The office was transferred to TxDOT in 1976.
Through the department’s
Tuition Assistance Program, Isabel earned her bachelor’s degree from St.
Edward’s University in Austin, graduating summa cum laude in 1993. She serves on
the Public Employees Credit Union board of directors and is a member of the
Texas Public Employees Association.
Born in Missouri, Isabel grew up in Fredericksburg. She and her husband, Charles, live in Austin.
They have three daughters and five grandchildren. |
