Chief Audit Officer

Benito Ybarra, chief audit officer, is the director of the Audit Office, effective Sept. 19, 2011. Ybarra is responsible for the management of the Audit Office, which focuses on providing assurance that TxDOT's business processes are designed and operating effectively to meet Agency goals and objectives.

Prior to joining TxDOT, Ybarra worked in the internal audit organizations at Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation and Dell, Inc. Ybarra holds a number of professional certifications, including Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner as a result of his more than 14 years of audit experience. Additionally, Ybarra is a current member of the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Professional Issues Committee and is an active member of several additional professional organizations.

Hailing from Elk Grove Village, Ill., Ybarra grew up in Robstown, Texas, before moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas. He enjoys sports and is a fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks and the Texas Longhorns. He also enjoys golfing and playing tennis. Benito and his wife, Sally, have a son and two daughters.
