Mark Tomlinson, P.E., is the director of the Texas Turnpike Authority.
The 25-year TxDOT veteran has extensive knowledge of and experience with planning and project development coming to his current position from that of Amarillo district engineer.
During his tenure in Amarillo, Tomlinson carried out the large-scale rehabilitation and upgrading of Interstate 40. This effort included the complete rehabilitation and expansion of the I-40/I-27 interchange, ramp and bridge improvements in Amarillo, and stage upgrading to concrete pavement for the entire I-40 corridor. The district also completed Loop 335 around the city of Amarillo and developed projects to upgrade 76 miles of U.S. 87 from two-lane to four-lane divided standards.
Before assuming his position in Amarillo in November 1996, he was director of transportation planning and development in TxDOT’s San Angelo District from 1993 to 1996. Before 1993, he served as the district’s traffic engineer, assistant design engineer and design engineer.
Tomlinson began working for TxDOT as an engineering aide in 1980 while earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating in 1982, he went to work in TxDOT’s San Angelo District as an engineering assistant in 1983. Tomlinson was licensed as a professional engineer in 1987.
Tomlinson, a native of Lampasas, and his wife, Gay, live in Round Rock. His daughter Lindsay graduated from Texas Tech in 2007 and works in Round Rock and his daughter Abby works at Texas Tech. He enjoys snow-skiing, biking, running, golf and community involvement.
He is a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He has served as a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and that group’s Governmental Affairs Committee. He also served on the Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy Advisory Board.
