Houston District Engineer

Delvin Dennis, P.E.Effective December 1, 2008, Delvin Dennis, P.E., will serve as the district engineer for the Houston District.

Dennis is a 28-year TxDOT veteran who has spent his entire career as a civil engineer in the Houston District and has been the district's deputy engineer since 1998. In September 2008, he was appointed Interim District Engineer, overseeing all engineering operations for the six-county Houston District. His leadership was instrumental in the district's planning and response to Hurricane Ike earlier this year.

Dennis began his TxDOT career in 1980 as an engineering assistant for the Central Houston Residency in the Houston Urban Project Office. Other positions he has held include assistant district construction engineer, resident engineer and director of maintenance. He is state president of the Texas Public Employees Association and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

He graduated from the University of Houston in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. Dennis was licensed as a professional engineer in 1985.

A Houston native, Dennis is married to Rita and he has two children, Jeremy and Claire.
