Russel W. Lenz, P.E., is the district engineer for the
Corpus Christi District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Lenz was appointed on September 1, 2008.
His areas of responsibility include Aransas, Bee, Goliad, Jim Wells, Karnes, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio counties. He was the former district engineer in Abilene.
A 29-year TxDOT veteran, Russel is a proven leader. His experience and ability to work with local leaders will be beneficial as Corpus Christi plans for future developments along I-69 and at the La Quinta Trade Gateway Terminal at the Port of Corpus Christi. Russel’s proven track record and positive approach makes him an excellent fit for the Corpus Christi region.
Since 2004, Russel has been District Engineer in Abilene. He has directed the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the nearly 3,800-mile state highway system in the 13-county district. Among his many accomplishments in Abilene was implementing the use of a dynamic pavement management strategy for I-20 and serving as a guest speaker at the Engineering Seminar Class at Texas Tech University each semester for the past four years.
Russel began his TxDOT career as a summer hire in 1979 in the Austin District, while studying at the University of Texas. In 1982, Russel was hired as an engineering assistant and served the Austin District in various positions in design and construction inspection including design team leader, associate design engineer and engineer of special design. In 1993, Russel became assistant area engineer for the South Travis/Hays County Area Office and was promoted to area engineer in 1994. From 1999 through 2003 Lenz served as the deputy district engineer in the Waco District.
Russel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1982 from The University of Texas at Austin. A native of central Texas, Russel and his wife Cindy have two children, Aaron and Rachel.
